THE IMPACT OF THE USE OF PROGESTERONE IN THE ABORTION THREAT - A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Abstract

- INTRODUCTION: For the prevention, development and maintenance of healthy gestation, progesterone, produced by the ovary from ovulation or administered after fertilization, is said to promote the reduction of spontaneous abortions. PURPOSE: to investigate whether progestagen treatment during pregnancy reduces the incidence of miscarriage in women with recurrent miscarriage. METHODOLOGY: This is a systematic review study, searched in the electronic databases MEDLINE, PUBMED, using in the first search the descriptors associated with Abortion and Progesterone Prevention, and their equivalents in Portuguese and Spanish. We've crawled articles that had the keywords in the title or abstract published in the last 10 years. For the selection of scientific articles, the following inclusion criteria were established: original articles with source of results, presenting randomized and controlled trials comparing progestogen supplementation (ie intervention group) during pregnancy with control group (placebo or no treatment) in women with a history of recurrent miscarriage. RESULTS: Of the 108 articles extracted in the research banks, 100 in Pubmed and 8 in Scielo. Of these, only 6 were included in the inclusion criteria. CONCLUSION: It is known that oral dydrogesterone at a dose of 10 mg two or three times a day seems to be safe and has good results, but more studies are needed to clarify its effectiveness.
