Introduction: Integrative Medicine and Health (IMH), as well as Complementary and
Alternative Medicine (CAM), encompass therapeutic approaches whose methods have
historically not been incorporated into conventional Western medicine. Among these
practices, chiropractic care stands out as one of the most sought after, especially for the
treatment of acute pain. Its joint manipulation techniques provide immediate pain relief and
can also be effective in chronic conditions. Low back pain, in turn, is characterized by
discomfort localized in the lumbar region — between the lower ribs and the top of the gluteal
area — and is, in most cases, a chronic problem that persists for more than three months
without an identifiable specific cause. Objective: To synthesize the available evidence on the
effectiveness of chiropractic care in the treatment of low back pain, highlighting its clinical
benefits for patients with this condition. Methods: The research was conducted using
reputable scientific databases, including the United States National Library of Medicine
(PubMed) and the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), in addition to consulting
other relevant articles addressing the use of chiropractic in the management of low back pain.
Only studies published within the last ten years were included. Results: A total of 325
publications were initially identified. After screening titles, abstracts, and full texts, and
applying exclusion criteria, five articles were selected for inclusion in this review.
Conclusion: The analyzed evidence indicates that chiropractic care is an effective approach
for the treatment of low back pain, promoting symptomatic relief and improving patients’
quality of life. When combined with other therapeutic modalities, it may enhance clinical
outcomes, contribute to health promotion, and support the overall well-being of individuals
living with this condition.
