Effectiveness of physiotherapeutic treatment in the post-operative breast cyst due to lymphatic drainage: a case report

Abstract

The objective of this Case Report was to describe the academic experience in the field of internship at the Clinical School of Physiotherapy of FAMP with a patient who was diagnosed with suggestive of malignancy in the left breast, experiencing pain in the cervical and lumbar region. A physical therapy evaluation form was carried out and intervention procedures for the postoperative and preoperative periods were outlined. In the preoperative breast, stretching was performed for the spine, lower limbs and upper limbs, relaxing manual massage with the aid of an electric massager with infrared light and electrothermophototherapy. In the breast postoperative period, we treat what was lost in the surgery, such as the functioning of the lymphedema, performing lymphatic drainage, adjusting the limb mobilization exercises on the side of the surgery and applying an infrared laser for rapid healing, for 16 sessions, once in the week lasting 50 min. The results achieved after the physiotherapeutic treatment were the reduction in the perimeter of the left and right breast by fluid retention, muscle strengthening and pain relief for the patient.
