Abstract

Introduction: Through excessive movement or trauma to the shoulder joint, shoulder impingement syndrome can occur, which is a rotator cuff injury caused by Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) and/or work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD) . Objective: To describe the academic experience in the Trauma and Orthopedics I internship field at the physiotherapy school clinic, presenting the results obtained with the physiotherapeutic treatment of a patient who presented alterations in both shoulders, the right one being most affected due to shoulder impingement syndrome . Method: The physiotherapeutic evaluation was carried out and the intervention procedures were outlined, which were exercises to strengthen and gain the Range of Motion (ROM) of the rotator, deltoid and trapezius cuffs. Myofascial release techniques and cervical pompage were also performed for 15 sessions being twice a week for 50 minutes. Results: It was observed improvement in pain, increased muscle strength and rotator cuff, deltoid and trapezius ROM. Conclusion: Physiotherapy is of great importance in the treatment of shoulder impingement syndrome, because with a careful evaluation, the treatment must be designed appropriately, avoiding surgical intervention, providing improvement in the pain, increased muscle strength and limb muscles ROM superiors, as was the case of the patient in the study carried out. Key Words: Repetitive Strain Injury, Rotator Cuff, Muscle Pain;
