Abstract

Pulpotomy is one of the treatment options for deciduous teeth with pulp involvement, which aims to maintain the integrity and vitality of the root pulp, when it is necessary to preserve the deciduous element until the period of exfoliation. The objective of this work is to present through a literature review the new materials employed for the deciduous teeth, emphasizing the ones that presented the more promising results. For the accomplishment of this work, the research on the subject was carried out with articles published between the years of 2008 to 2018, written in English, Portuguese and Spanish, being a case report, field research and literature review in online databases. It was observed that in clinical and radiographic studies that the use of MTA, ferric sulfate presented better responses to treatment when compared to methods the use of formocresol and calcium hydroxide. It is concluded that it is important to preserve the integrity of the root pulp even in radical procedures, and material, such as MTA, ferric sulfate, Portland cement and techniques such as electric scalpel and low power laser presented good results as innovative methods of treatment.
