Abstract

The Maxillofacial deformity is the lost of the shape original in the head and neck, causing problem psychological, family and social in the patient. The etiology of this deformity is divided into three groups: congenital, that are caused by bad formations, disturbances of the individual’s development, acquired, that is patients who have suffered accidents and traumatize the region of the head and neck, and oncological origin, maxillofacil prostheses restores the quality of live, citizenship and reintegrates this patient into the society. The present work refers to a review of the literature with paper aims is to the importance of the establishment of buccomaxillofacial prostheses and the importance of the dental surgeon in the rehabilitation of this patient. The review was conducted through a literature search in: Birime, Scielo, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar databases PubMed, Biblioteca Virtual da Saúde (BVS). Thus, it’s worth mentioning in the work those that present the types of buccal-maxillofacial prostheses nasal, headset, ocular, obturator prostheses. It was observed that, regardless of the type of prosthesis, the return of aesthetics, function, well-being and quality of life is notorious.
