Abstract

It is understood that gender does not refer only to male and female existence. And yes, a universe of possibilities with tendencies related to the feminine and the masculine, depending on the cultural context and composed by social relations, dependent on culture and shaped by the values of society. In this way, we agree with Simone de Beauvoir by saying that one is not born a woman but becomes a woman. Using1,4,5,7,9 among others, this work aims to research what it is like to be a woman in society, investigating the professional and personal profile, as main characteristics and social representations constituted for that gender. The criteria used for the bibliographic search included themes on: sex and gender; historicity of gender mainstreaming in society; understanding social inequality between genders; gender and politics; with 21 bibliographic references between the years 1980 to 2020 for a historical and current comparison of what it is to experience being a woman in a society. The following keywords are used: gender, female, gender and historical inequity. Too many articles were excluded, which did not include this narrative panorama. For this, a narrative review was carried out which allows us to draw a historical and current panorama of what women are in a society more specifically about education and they passed on, as characteristics and social roles represented, prejudices experienced and thus assisting in the deconstruction of social myths thus providing access to information on the new roles that women have been gaining and their deconstruction.
