Congenital malformations include any functional and/or structural disturbance during embryonic development, that can cause a great impact on the individual’s health, on the family structure and on society. Congenital anomalies are the second cause of child death in Brazil and occupy the third place in child mortality under 5 years old. The aim of this study was to identify the prevalence of live birth with some kind of congenital malformation in the city of Mineiros-GO, among 2014 to 2018. It was a cross-sectional, retrospective and quantitative research. The analyzed data were obtained through the access to the DATASUS platform, SINASC (Information System on Live Births), and with the assistance of the Sanitary Surveillance of Mineiros-GO. The sample consisted of 75 (p=1.3%) newborns with congenital malformations that were born in the city in the last 5 years. This prevalence was greater (P>0.001) in relation to the neighboring cities, although similar with the data referring to the State of Goiás (p= 1.17%) in the same period of time. The most prevalent anomaly was related to the osteomuscular deformity. This study elucidated the prevalence of congenital malformations in Mineiros-GO, despite having some limitations due to underreporting number of cases, showing the need to standardize protocols of congenital anomalies records in order to predict the risk factors of congenital anomalies.
