Abstract

Regarding the high rate of type 2 diabetes mellitus (type 2 DM) and hypothyroidism in the Brazilian citizens and its association with cardiovascular complications, the interest arose about the investigation in the prevalence of both pathologies in the population that is attended by medical students UBS Ubaldina Rezende Carvalho in Mineiros-GO. The results reaffirmed in previous surveys that there is a high prevalence of type 2 DM in association with hypothyroidism, mainly because it is a restricted to a BHU, in which a number of non-specific clinical care is performed. However, this study did not demonstrate the prevalence of these patients' gender with the two comorbidities, differently from what was shown in previous studies which the highest prevalence was for women. The importance of follow-up of the recommendations already implemented, in an early manner, especially due to its cardiovascular risks, mainly systemic arterial hypertension and dyslipidemia, is one of the major causes of mortality in these patients.
