Abstract

The peptic ulcer is a pathogen of high incidence and much studied by the scientific community and social interest, since its consequences bring damage to the care systems because it affects a large part of the economically active population. It reaches more men than women, and also the population with lower purchasing power. It is closely linked to basic sanitation, since infection with Helicobacter pylori, a gram-negative bacterial organism transmitted mainly by the fecal-oral route, is the main cause of peptic ulcers. This research aimed to identify the number of people affected by peptic ulcers infected by H. pylori among those who are at risk of presenting this condition in a given period of time and locality. We analyzed 519 reports and results of High Digestive Endoscopies performed at Hospital Escola Samaritano during a period of one year, from February 2018 to February 2019, from patients aged 10 to 93 years old. The tests that presented urease tests with negative results were more prevalent than the positive results, being 310 and 209 exams respectively. The total number of normal exams was more prevalent in females and the percentage of negative ureases was higher than those in this group. In males, the opposite occurred. The percentage of positive ureases was higher. As for ulcers, 44 were identified and, of these, 33 had H. pylory, that is, 77%. However, this was not the most prevalent diagnosis. Mild enantiomatous pangastritis represented most of the pathologies found. Thus, within the town of  Mineiros - GO, its prevalence of peptic ulcers associated with peptic ulcer infection presented results consistent with the theory.
