In relation to the increasing demand for aesthetic treatments, dental bleaching has been a sought after treatment in dentistry lately, for demonstrating rapid, effective and conservative results. Thus, the objective of this study was to verify, through a bibliographical review, in which 20 articles published in the period between 2008 and 2018 were used, considering whether the use of pigments interferes or not with the results obtained in dental bleaching. Changes caused by the whitening agent on the enamel surface can provide potential penetration of bacteria, chemicals and coloring substances. Some authors believe that the pigments consumed through the feed during the bleaching period may lead to a staining in the structure of a possibly more porous enamel. According to some findings, it could be concluded that there is still a great divergence related to the subject having the need to carry out additional research.
