Ameloblastoma: a review of clinical, histopathological and genetic characteristics
Keywords:
Ameloblastoma, Tumor, LesionAbstract
Ameloblastoma lesions account for 10% of all existing odontogenic tumors. The ameloblastoma has epithelial origin, being more common in the region of mandible. Despite being a histologically benign tumor, ameloblastoma tends to have a locally invasive and aggressive behavior, making necessary the total removal of the tumor, in order to avoid possible recurrences. This tumor has its own clinical and radographic characteristics, being able to be located in its initial stage of development. The lesion of ameloblastoma has different variations in its clinical signs, which can demonstrate the stages of aggressiveness of the tumor. Its etiology is still uncertain, and may arise in varied ways. Its origin can still be influenced by hereditary factors and mutations in specific genes. This work aims, through the literary review, to describe ameloblastoma lesions, as well as their classification, clinical signs, histopathological and the genetic influences that can lead to tumor formation.
