Abstract

The objective of the proposed study is to report a clinical case of early dental space loss due to caries lesions in the primary dentition, recovering the space lost with the use of orthodontic space-recovering device, putting into practice the importance of interceptive orthodontics. A seven-year-old male patient sought out the polyclinic of the FAMP faculty, with the main complaint being pain in tooth 75. The clinical examination revealed extensive caries lesions, and the proposed treatment was the extraction of the tooth in question. After the procedure, the patient did not return to continue the treatment. One year after extraction, the patient returned for a routine consultation and the beginning of tooth inclination to the edentulous space was observed. Those responsible were instructed on the importance of using a removable appliance with a helical spring to conquer space, due to its ability to provide distal angulation of the first permanent molar. It is concluded that, the device with coil spring to conquer space obtained an excellent result where the distalization of the lower permanent first molar on the left side occurred and the alignment of the lower incisors, contributing to a good occlusion of the patient, recovering the lost space.
