The gastroesophageal reflux disease related to the esophageal adenocarcinoma.

BACKGROUND: The gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), is considered one of the most frequent cause found in gastroenterology in doctor’s office, due to the importance of patients qualitiy`s life. The main complication regarding to this disease is: the esophageal adenocarcinoma, presenting the eighth most common cancer worldwide, varying in frequency in high and low incidence regions. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to verify the influence of GERD on esophageal adenocarcinoma. METHODS: The research was based on bibliographic database, Pubmed, Scielo, BVS and science direct. Applying inclusion and exclusion selection, 15 total articles were selected. Used recent publication and related articles topic. RESULTS: Most patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease have a 10 to 15% chance to increase Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma (EA). CONCLUSION: Barrett's esophagus is the evolution of GERD by long time, the concern about Barrett`s esophagus is the risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma.
