The objective of this study was to verify if there are differences when using endodontic file, Easy Clean file and Irrisonic ultrasound tip in the filling quality of root canals with calcium hydroxide paste. Thirty human single-rooted teeth were used, instrumentating the canals with ProDesign M system files up to instrument 40.05. After preparation of the root canal, the selected teeth were randomly distributed into three groups (n = 10) according to the technique used to fill the canal with calcium hydroxide paste: G1 - filling with type K file #40; G2 - filling with Easy Clean; and G3 - Irrisonic ultrasonic tip filling. The pulp preparation consisted of four portions of calcium hydroxide, one of iodoform and twenty two drops of propylene glycol, being mixed until homogenized. After filling the teeth with the pulp, they were radiographed by conventional two-way bucco-lingual and mesio-distal procedures. The filling quality was then assessed by three calibrated examiners, who assigned scores to quantify the presence of spaces in the 3thirds root. The results obtained showed that the filling done with endodontic file and ultrasound exhibited superior quality to the use of Easy Clean. It was detected a lower presence of blisters, mainly in the cervical and middle thirds, providing the best contact of the medication with the dental structure when compared to the Easy Clean file.
