Abstract

The lingual frenulum is a median fold mucosa stretched on the floor of the mouth that appears when the tip of the tongue is raised towards the palate. The change in the frenulum is ankyloglossia call limiting tongue movements contributing to mechanical problems in eating, speaking and breastfeeding, among others. The attention of parents is shown as a determining factor so that this anomaly is detected as soon as possible because early diagnosis remains the main key to prevention and treatment. For treatment, the surgical frenectomy is a good resolution can be performed by standard techniques as well as laser with minor differences in the healing and postoperative. This paper presents a literature review on the prevalence, evaluation protocols, types of frenulum and the lingual frenectomy.
