Suicide in the municipality of Mineiros/GO: DATASUS Data Analysis and Legal Medical Institute

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze data on suicide in the municipality of Mineiros - GO, popularly known as high index for aggravation, focusing on their quality in the databases of the Instituto Médico Legal and DATASUS, comparing them between 2014 and 2016. It was found that there was a divergence of information between the two sources of analysis. The suicide rate was not higher than the national average, the most common suicide method in the municipality is the most common world-wide asphyxia with rope, and alleged reasons for underreporting were raised, which were: process of death verification, delivery to the IML, IML analysis and the difficulty of health professionals in the region to identify a suicide case.
