Keywords:

Introduction: Hemostasis is the process of defense of the circulatory system against aggressions that can cause platelet disorders, such as thrombus formation in venous thromboembolism. The pregnancy status and the use of oral contraceptives as risk factors for this serious clinical condition with a high morbidity and mortality rate are highlighted. Goals. Objectives:To report the surgical indication of hysterectomy as prophylaxis for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients with a previous history of comorbidities due to the increased risk of new episodes and their consequences. Methodology: A bibliographic review was carried out to realize the case report project based on articles found online, in the following databases: US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (PubMed), Electronic Library Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Google Scholar, in addition to the basis in the Technical Manual on Family Planning of the Ministry of Health. The following words were used as indexing term with the help of DeCS: family planning, contraceptive methods, hysterectomy and oral anticoagulants. Conclusion: It's essential to realize the importance of individualizing family planning, as well as raising questions about some approaches recommended by SUS. It should be emphasized that it would be relevant to improve contraceptive methods - hormonal or non-hormonal - approved by the Ministry of Health, in order to make their failure rates null and void. In addition, it is imperative to remember that the Brazilian code of ethics brings the doctor-patient relationship under the practice of the principle of autonomy and that it is necessary to consider innumerable factors for the decision of the definitive treatment on the sterilization of young patients using oral anticoagulants.
