Abstract

Odontoma are common odontogenic tumors of ectomesenchimal origin with etiology that may arise from developmental disorders, infections and trauma. Although it has generally a long, asymptomatic growth, it can lead to esthetic and functional complications. Odontomas can be classified as complex and composed, are in most cases radiographic findings and the treatment is the conservative surgical removal of the lesion with subsequent histopathological examination and follow-up. The present study show a clinical case of composite odontoma in the maxilla of a male patient, 10 years old, treated surgically. The objective of this case is to analyze the importance of the association of exams for the correct and accurate diagnosis, preserving the confidence and comfort of the patient, considering also the study of the pericoronary hood as a differential in the diagnosis of this lesion. From this set of factors, we conclude that the prognosis of the case was favorable with the need for follow-up.
