Breast milk is an intense, ready and natural food that meets the baby's nutritional needs. Breastfeeding is extremely important, because in addition to nutrition, it establishes the emotional bond between mother and child and is closely linked to the modulation of the immune system and psychological development in the first year of a child's life. Breastfeeding involves historical, social, cultural and psychological factors of the puerperal woman. This action also involves commitment, knowledge of specialist professionals, who work in the health area. In this way, the nurse has an important role in organizing, programming, motivating, instructing the pregnant woman during the prenatal period, so that in the postpartum period breastfeeding is smooth and without probable disorders. The objective of this study is to present a scientific theoretical material based on the nurse's role in relation to the motivation for breastfeeding.
