The objective of the literature review on the importance of the dental surgeon in the care of pregnant women, taking into account aspects of dental treatment and the most comprehensive changes during the gestational period. The period of pregnancy constitutes a moment of changes in the woman's life, because, in addition to physiological and physical changes, changes in the patient's emotional state are also observed. Certain conditions are more complex and need to be known by the dentist, in which he is a member of a multidisciplinary team and has the function of correctly guiding the pregnant woman in relation to her health status. Many dentistry professionals prefer to avoid care, especially in the first trimester, for fear of being held responsible for possible fatalities that may occur with the baby. The professional should be prepared for care if necessary, performing a correct and comfortable treatment for the patient.
