The Emergency Care Units (UPA) occupy the intermediate level of complexity between primary and tertiary care, integrating the Pre-Hospital Network, where it acts as a gateway to urgent and emergency services. The UPAs must operate 24 hours a day, performing the reception with risk classification that provides humanization in the care and work of the multidisciplinary team. The lack of flexibility in the sectors of the health area causes the overcrowding of hospital emergencies and emergency rooms, making this area one of the most problematic in the health system. Thus, through this study, it was explained about the effectiveness of humanization in care; clarifying concepts related to humanization, with the objective of describing the importance of nurse assistance in an Emergency Care Unit, serving as a source of improvement of knowledge about humanized health care. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out through a literature review based on an analysis of scientific articles, informing about the importance of humanization in urgent and emergency care. Humanization can be understood as a bond between professionals and users, based on actions directed by the understanding and appreciation of the subjects, reflecting on ethical and human attitudes, encompassing socio-cultural aspects being permeated by inaccuracies in care. It is essential that the patient is welcomed, so that care is not only focused on clinical complaints, seeking to target the human being in an integral way, considering their uniqueness. The literature review revealed that the lack of structural resources, aspects related to multiprofessional work and malfunctioning of health care networks, with low resolution of primary care, lead to overcrowding in emergency care units. Due to these factors, it is necessary to apply the host with risk classification, which is the most used device among those offered by the national humanization policy, bringing satisfactory results with clinical efficacy, providing a humanized reception.
