Results: The prevalence of congenital anomalies in Brazil was 8,2/1,000 live births and southeastern region had the highest number of malformations (47%). Musculoskeletal malformations were predominant throughout the country (3,1/1,000 live births) and remained constant over the years (SD: 2,15%). Also, it was observed that congenital diseases of the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, digestive system and circulatory system are, respectively, the most prevalents and altogether they represent 60% of the malformations. Conclusion: It was found that the prevalence data of malformations were underestimated regarding international values, possibly due to non-compulsory notification by hospital. In addition, there is differences in prevalence and types of congenital malformation among Brazilian regions.
