Yellow September as a suicide prevention strategy for teenagers: an experience report

Objective: To describe the conduct of an educational activity on suicide during the Yellow September campaign. Method: Experience report. Lecture dialogued with the theme Suicide Prevention, conducted by undergraduate nursing students under the supervision of a teacher, to 9th grade students of a public school as part of the Yellow September campaign and Health at School Program activity. Results: Many students described suicidal thoughts arising from family problems, parents' separation, difficulties in accepting sexual orientation and relationship breakdowns. Conclusion: The results of the activity arouse the importance of early detection of warning signs for suicidal behavior. It was clear that schools should have trained and qualified professionals to deal with these situations. Moreover, the need for intensifying the discussion of the theme in the academic community is evident.
